The Dutch Bay - From the resort there is a 20km stretch of sandy beach bordering the sea/lagoon which is called The Dutch Bay. It is situated about 2km from Diyamba and boasts a beautiful landscape with sand dunes and stretches of jungle. Bird life is abundant with the migrant population nesting amongst the mangroves in oblivious bliss. 4WD vehicles are needed to visit this area. You will not want to miss this opportunity to see a vision painted just for you: against the background of fishermen on small catamarans in a still, vast, space, the sun will rise as you gaze at the horizon. Turtle Watching - There is an abundance of turtle life in this area. The traditional nesting place for turtles is across the waters on the Indian beaches. However, Turtle nesting places are also found on the Kanthakkuliya beach during the nesting season (August through October). The best times to see turtles are on the shore during the full moon, when they come to lay their eggs. Wilpattu National Park - The largest national park, spanning approximately 425 sq miles, has reopened to the public after nearly 25 years. Access to the park is granted by the Wild Life Department. It is approximately 85km from Diyamba (about 1.5 hours by car). Wilpattu is a thick dry zone jungle with an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including leopards, elephants, deer, wild boar and sloth bears.
