This peninsula, surrounded on one side by the
Indian Ocean and on the other by Puttalam’s lagoon,
is the perfect place for kitesurfing, with several spots
for beginners as well as advanced riders.The trade
winds blow from the Arabian seas to the Indian
Ocean, enabling travel to the Indian subcontinent
and then make a U-turn to crash into the North
West Coast of Sri Lanka. During the South
East monsoon period of May till September, gale
force winds of over 25 knots, blow consistently.
The Srilanka Kite School is located on the peninsula of Kalpitya, 2hrs drive from the international airport of Colombo-Kutanayake. Fully catered accomodation for Kite School participants or advanced kiters in 6 comfortable newly built bungalows looking out onto the Indian Ocean. The team will cook delicious healthy meals with the fish, prawns and vegetables that come directly from the sea and gardens of the surrounding villages.
